Season 5, Episode 13: Interview with Marine Costello from Parker Harris

In this episode, Peter and Tom, interview Marine Costello, the Head of Communications at Parker Harris. The focus of the episode is all about online marketing for Artists.

In part one, Marine talks about her education and background in art history and arts management and shares her passion for the creative arts. She also explains her day job and why she loves working with Artists. In addition, she breaks down and talks through the terminology of PR, marketing and branding, getting to the heart of what it actually is and explaining the relevance to the self-employed Artist.

In part two, Marine shares more of her wisdom, specifically in relation to online marketing for Artists, what form this can and should take and her top tips. She shares with us four key questions to ask yourself, to help you clarify what you need to do and why you need to do it.

Marine also talks about the benefits of finding your “corner of the art world” and how thinking about your branding and marketing journey might be different to your output - do you really need to show and share everything? Think about how you might curate and direct your marketing. Marine shares with us real-life examples to illustrate her advice.

This week’s takeaway… having a marketing strategy is key. Think about the platform(s) you want to use based upon the audience you want to attract. Focus your attention there and remember, you don’t need to be everywhere showing everything.
