Ask an Artist: Interview with Evie Hatch; Artist, Writer & Pigment Connoisseur from Jackson’s Art Supplies

Season 6, Episode 11: Interview with Evie Hatch; Artist, Writer & Pigment Connoisseur from Jackson’s Art Supplies

In this episode, Peter and Tom interview Evie Hatch, Artist, Writer & Pigment Connoisseur from Jackson's Art Supplies, to talk about all things colour!

Why is colour so beguiling? What is it about colour which has always transfixed Artists? Evie is an Artist herself and works for Jackson's Art Supplies, writing for their blog and presenting on their social media channels. In the first half of the episode, Evie chats with Tom and Peter about the origins of certain pigments, the qualities or “personalities” of different colours and the ways in which Artists of the past and present have utilised and developed different pigments. Evie’s knowledge of colour and pigment history is extensive and the stories she shares are truly fascinating; it is art, interwoven with technology, chemistry and history.

In the second part of the episode, Evie explains some common technical terms, such as hue, transparency, organic and light-fastness, and what they mean in relation to colour and pigments. And of course, to conclude, Evie, Tom and Peter all talk about their favourite colours and colour stories.

This week’s takeaway… if you would like to find out more about colour and pigments, you should definitely head over to Jackson’s blog. You can also watch Evie on the Jackson’s Youtube channel, TikTok and Instagram: https://www.jacksonsart.com/blog/author/evie/
