Social Media: Love it or Hate it?

Social Media: Love it or Hate it?

Season 4, Episode 1 : Welcome back and Social Media: Love it or Hate it?

Welcome back to Season 4 of Ask an Artist. There are a lot of things that have happened since Tom and Peter were last together - certainly lots of things happening around the world and indeed plenty of ideas, problems and opportunities to navigate through during these challenging times.

In this first episode of a new series, Peter and Tom have a long over-due catch-up in the first half and in the second, they talk about their changing relationships with social media (in particular, Instagram) and whether they love it or hate it.

Tom begins by updating us all on a very exciting, recent, painting trip to Kenya. If you would like to read more about where Tom visited, please click here.

Tom has also recently launched two, new, online, teaching ventures and explains how there was a lot more set-up than he had perhaps first realised.

Meanwhile, Peter has been busy working on portrait commissions, new prints of the Theatre Residency, a new season of Zoom teaching and trying to strike that all important balance between teaching and painting.

In part two, Peter and Tom discuss some of the recent changes they, and other Artist friends, have noticed on social media, in particular Instagram. Tom has had a hiatus from Instagram for nearly a year now and he explains why and what he has noticed as a result. Peter still uses instagram regularly but has noticed a definite shift and change in the way he can and wants to use it.

This week’s takeway… it is great to be back, with a brand new sponsor! And as for social media, it’s a love-hate relationship. Try not to throw the baby out with the bath water when it becomes frustrating - remember to try to get some balance and at the end of the day, it is a tool among many, which you can use. Ultimately you pay for it with your time and when we need more time to create, remember to value your time appropriately.
